New Addition to Lineup

Friday 28th August at Reading Festival

With a critically heralded return in the shape of new album 'Everything is New'  JACK PEÑATE comes to the twin sites in fine form.

Having wowed the UK with hit single 'Torn on the Platform' and top ten album 'Matinee' in 2007 the London born singer has continued to prove himself one of the UK's brightest hopes with that new album, the NME noting, "Jack Peñate has made a record that’s light on its feet, [and] has glamour bordering on sex appeal".

Following rapturous reviews for his recent UK tour expect a full house at both sites for these shows from one of the UK's brightest hopes.

Tangerine Fields

Imagine not lugging tents and camping gear around for hours until you find a spot to pitch. No struggling to put up a tent in the dark. No calling for your mates across a pitch black campsite.  Tangerine Fields is what you’re dreaming of.  And it’s here at the Reading Festival 2009.

Tangerine Fields have ready-pitched and fully equipped tents for hire.  All you have to do is book and turn up.  Tents are available in 2, 4 and 6 man sizes. Better still, book with your friends and we’ll make sure you’re all camped together.

And for that added bit of luxury and piece of mind, we have our own toilets and showers in a secure area with 24 hour stewarding.

Visit www.tangerinefields.co.uk for more information and bookings.

Lostprophets headline the NME/R1 tent

Lostprophets return with two very special intimate festival appearances giving fans an exclusive preview of their long awaited fourth album.

The band will headline the NME/Radio 1 tent at the Reading & Leeds Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend, Saturday 29th August at Leeds and Sunday 30th at Reading.

The band last toured the UK in 2007 and have been working flat out in the UK and US on their highly anticipated follow up to the number one album ‘Liberation Transmission’. Vocalist Ian Watkins commented, “We’ve been dying to come back to the UK and play and when we realised the timing meant we could make it Reading & Leeds we jumped at the chance as it’s got the most amazing memories for us. We also thought, rather than playing on the main stage we could get in the tent and see the whites of the eyes of the fans down the front, and get their first hand reaction to the new songs. It’ll be amazing.”

We are immensely thrilled to welcome Lostprophets back to Reading and Leeds Festivals in a very special up-close setting. They have always been a huge hit with fans at both sites and have performed some legendary shows. Lostprophets and shows like this are what Reading and Leeds are all about.

GAS CANISTERS AND AEROSOLS (OVER 100ML) BANNED

For various reasons, mainly your and our staff’s safety, we have decided to bring our campsite policy in line with many other similar national events and we will not permit any gas canisters, cylinders or petrol cookers into the campsites, or anywhere on site, this year.  We suggest that if you want to cook outside your tent that you bring disposable bbq’s only.  Anyone seen with canisters or cylinders will be ejected from site.  Please help up with this, plan ahead and have a great camping experience.

The caravan and campervan ticket holders in the campervan field only will be permitted to bring in gas containers up to the limit of 3kg.

In addition to our new gas canister and cylinder policy above we will also not be permitting aerosols over 100ml in size onto site. This is for the same reasons as above and please also help us with this and keep the campsites a safer place.

GAS CANISTERS (any size)
PETROL BURNER
ANY FORM OF AEROSOL OVER 100ml

ALLOWED:
SOLID FUEL STOVES
DISPOSABLE BARBEQUES

Look after your wristband

Everyone on site must wear a wristband, and if yours is damaged or lost you may not be able to enter the arena and/or may be required to leave the site.

1.  Ensure your wristband is secure.  The clasp should be firmly in place and not slipping up or down.  The wristband must not be loose so check it cannot slip over your wrist.

2. Do not tamper with your wristband in any way.  The wristband often has loose ends which many are tempted to cut or burn off.  Do not do this.  If the ends are tampered with it increases the likelihood of losing your wristband as the ends may fray and/or can slip out of the clasp more easily.  Most wristbands have a warning which says “void if removed” and the promoter has the right to refuse entry if a wristband has been tampered with.

3. Do not tie knots or add anything to your wristband.  All bands are checked each time you enter the arena and at various checkpoints around the site.  Knots, plasters, tape etc. on your band will have to be removed to check the band properly and this will cause delays to you and others at the entrance.  Some people may be sensitive to the metal on some clasps.  If this is the case, do not put tape on the wristband, but protect your skin with hypoallergenic tape instead.

4. Keep your wristband safe.  Even if a wristband appears secure it may still be lost or stolen especially if you get involved in lively crowd activity, “moshing” etc.  The best way to keep your wristband safe, and to prevent the loose ends snagging or annoying you, is to wear an elasticated/towelling sweatband over the top or a long sleeved top with elasticated cuffs.  This way you will keep it safe but you will still be able to show it at checkpoints easily.

5. What if you have a problem?  As soon as you realise you have a problem, lost, damaged band etc. you must get help.  If you are outside the arena, go to the nearest wristband exchanges tent where someone will help and advise you.  When you get to the wristband exchange look for, and ask for, the Gate manager.  If you are inside the arena, do not leave, go to the arena entrance and, without leaving the arena, ask for the supervisor who will be able to help.

6.  Wristbands remain the property of Festival Republic until 12 noon Bank Holiday Monday August.

Tue, 31 Mar 2009

ALL TICKETS SOLD OUT

Melvin Benn, MD of Festival Republic, said of the dual sell out:

This is the 7th year in succession that both events have sold out within 24 hours of going on sale and I am very very pleased of course. The stature of the events have grown and grown each year and this year’s line up only adds to that. However, I must express caution towards all those who will now try to get their hands on tickets in whatever way they can as they do need to be careful of dodgy sites. The only site I can recommend will be viagogo who will at least guarantee anything they sell.”

The world famous Reading and Leeds Festival takes place from Friday 28th August to Sunday 30th August 2009.

Headliners this year are The Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead and Kings Of Leon. For more details on the bill and further information on the event please visit www.readingfestival.com / www.leedsfestival.com.

EARLY BIRD TICKETS
A licence condition from the council dictates a maximum amount of early bird tickets are sold. We have, over the years been unable to increase that number and intend to apply again this year but that takes time.

Early bird tickets have completely sold out. Any bought in the presale in September 2008 remain valid.

LIFTSHARE TO READING
If you have to come by car because the bus and train just won’t work for you, please try and fill up all the seats in your car. As an example, if you’re driving an average sized petrol car, having four people in it will bring your impact down to just a bit more than travelling to the festival by train, and just under twice as impactful as travelling by coach.

So it really does make a difference if fill up all the seats.

CAMPERVANS AND CARAVANS
In order to maintain the integrity of the caravan and campervan field in white zone camp and also because it has been many years since we raised the price of a caravan and campervan permit these will increase to £20 in advance, and £30 on the gate for 2009

We have written new terms and conditions for anyone planning to bring a campervan or caravan to the event to sleep in and please see the campervan section for those. It basically means that you can only bring proper sleeping vehicles to the event to sleep in. No white vans or any other vehicle that simply has a mattress in will do!

All campervans and caravans will be going into the white campsite again this year, not red.  Your vehicle may be searched and disallowed items confiscated.  Please see our confiscation policy.
